The Royal Norwegian Embassy in cooperation with the Myanmar-Norway Business Council and Innovation Norway launched the Myanmar Business Guide for Norwegian Investors on 11 December 2015 at a function at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Singapore. H.E. Ambassador Tormod A. Cappelen had assembled more than 150 Norwegian-related business-persons to a get-together where Myanmar was one of the central themes.
The 100-page guide is a joint project with the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Innovation Norway and Baker & McKenzie (Myanmar) Ltd. H.E. Ambassador Ann Ollestad remarked that it was a great pleasure for her to see that a comprehensive Business Guide for Myanmar is now available. She hoped that it would prove to be a useful tool for both established and prospective Norwegian businesses in the country. She also stated that Norway places great emphasis on the promotion of responsible business conduct in Myanmar, and that she believes Norwegian companies have an important role to play in this. The work Norway supports through organisations such as the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business is very important in terms of setting international norms and putting ‘best practice’ in the area of responsible business conduct on the agenda. Business ethics, corporate conduct and environmental sustainability are key principals in this regard. The ambassador believes that Norwegian companies entering Myanmar can act as role models by setting high standards, thereby building capacity and improving the livelihood for the people.
